History

Oakmont Golf Club is located in the ‘Valley of the Moon’ as nicknamed by author Jack London, who once lived nearby. The roots of the Oakmont Golf Club were established in the early planning of H.N. and Frances Berger. They believed in helping people to help themselves, providing them with an opportunity to improve their own situations. In this light they decided to build a residential golfing community on the land that he had acquired from the City of Santa Rosa. In 1963 construction began on the first nine holes of the West Course under the watchful eye of golf course architect, Ted Robinson. 

Over the next 20 years additional homes were completed and the golfing facilities were built in sequence with the home construction. The second nine holes of the West Course began in 1965 with the front and back nines of the East Course developed in 1973 and 1980.

In 2000, the Club underwent a complete renovation. Construction on two Oakmont Pro Shops was completed allowing for the removal of the Pro Shop from the Quail Inn dining and banquet facility. The bar was modernized and moved to its current location allowing for integration with the dining and event spaces. Floor to ceiling windows were installed in all dining and banquet rooms providing guests with stunning views of the Mayacama Mountains and the picturesque course.

In 2005, minor renovations were completed at the Club that included replacing flooring and repainting the interior of the Quail Inn in addition to other minor building and grounds updates.
